Teams will follow the local and prevailing rules for any and all of their regular league and tournament games attended.
Upon qualifying for and reaching the WBA Super Regionals, the Official Baseball Rules as set by Sporting News will be in effect. Specific criteria listed here will be instituted alongside the established rules.
Team Age determined by oldest player’s age as of MAY 1. After September 1 of any year, teams should play as the next year's age. This will allow your team to early- qualify for a WBA Super Regional for the next season.
No Boundary Rules. Players may reside anywhere as long as they are on the team roster by the roster due date.
Upon attending a WBA Super Regional or World Series event, coaches must provide a complete team roster, birth certificates for all players, and proof of team insurance.
All of these documents must be submitted at the time of TEAM CHECK-IN. All players must have an original or a reasonable copy of their birth certificate to be able to participate in a WBA Super Regional. Tournament Director will make the judgement on any questionable documents/copies. No exceptions to this rule.
Bases will be open. Leadoffs and stealing allowed. (Classic and Premier Divisions). AllStar Division-no leadoffs. Runners may advance once the pitch has entered the hitting zone.
Sliding Rules: Headfirst slides are allowed. Coaches are responsible for insuring that all players have been taught the proper mechanics for all styles of sliding. If players have not been properly trained in the art of sliding, we discourage the use of the headfirst slide. Malicious sliding will be a judgement call by the game umpires.
No pitching restrictions. The WBA strongly suggests that managers keep pitch counts for all pitchers and refrain from throwing pitchers on consecutive days.
See the following recommendations:
AGE PITCH COUNT DAYS REST
9 30-40 3
10 40-50 3
11 50-60 3
12 60-70 3
13 70-80 4
14 80-85 4
These recommendations are based upon mid-late summer. Earlier in the year and in cold weather, counts should be kept much lower. All pitchers should ice their arms and shoulders after each outing regardless of number of pitches thrown. Coaches should always be cautious with young arms.
Basepaths and pitching distances will generally be as follows:
9-10 46/60
11-12 50/70
13 54/80
14 60/90
Cleats shall be of non-metal material for age 9-12 teams. Metal cleats may be worn by ages 13-14.
Teams must wear proper baseball attire in a safe manner.
Teams may use standard approved bats made of wood or metal. On site Tournament Directors have final decision in all equipment disputes.
Teams will be allowed four coaches within the playing area. Team scorekeepers may be outside the playing area.
Protests will be allowed with a $150.00 cash protest fee paid at the time of the protest. The on site Tournament Director will have final decision making ability in all protest situations. Judgement calls can not be protested. The protest fee is non-refundable.
Coaches are responsible for the behavior of all players and accompanying fans during all WBA events.
All other rules will be administered by the Tournament Director and the Head Umpire on site at the WBA Super Regional.
All rules stated above will apply to the WBA World Series competition as well.
